Editing Process

  • How are you using the editing process to create a coherent meaning from your collection of shots? Focus on meaning-making throughout the process
  • What kind of technology did you use during the process?
  • What did you learn about using postproduction technologies (iMovie, Adobe Premier, Audacity, sound equipment, etc.)?

Rough Cut- Reflection

How much continuity does the video have? Are there any places where the continuity can be improved? How?

To what extent is the video readable as a film opening? Can you understand that it's an opening? Why or why not? What can you do to make it more readable?

To what extent is the video readable within your chosen genre? Can you tell it's a horror/thriller/comedy/coming-of-age etc.? How can this area be improved?

Partner with someone who doesn't know anything about your video. Record their answers to the following questions:

What is setting (time and place)? How can you tell?

Who are the characters? How can you tell?

What is the movie going to be about? How can you tell?

To what extent is it readable as a film opening?

To what extent is it readable as a [insert genre] film?

Overall, how might the clarity of meaning in the video be improved?

Overall, what are your ideas for how the above aspects of the video can be improved? Reshooting? Better editing? Sound? Rewriting parts of the script? What are your next concrete steps?

AHA moments

  • "A-ha" moments or learning experiences
  • Changes and revisions made to the project during production
My partner and I have had a few slip-ups along the way. We weren't sure how we were going to film and we realized that there weren't enough characters to make this film come outright. I also made a mistake in the format of the script so I had to go back in and revise it and continue to add the new characters. My partner could not let it go that I had messed up, she continued to always keep laughing at it.

Influences

  • Did you work from any influences when recording certain shots? Provide examples such as a side-by-side comparison
  • "Diary" entries detailing the production process, including photos and videos
  • Difficulties encountered along the way
Along the way, it was hard to find people to cast throughout the film and the planning of it just wasn't right. I needed to find days that were convenient to both me and my partner. We are currently editing and there are a few complications of how we are going to put it together as one. When doing the establishing shot, I mostly thought about the comedy movie Madea: Boo, it also started off with an establishing shot. The beginning was animated which made everything look way better.

Production Process

  • What kind of technology did you use during the process?
  • What did you learn about using production technologies (cameras, lights, etc.)?
  • Did you consult any sources to learn how to use your equipment (YouTube tutorials, etc
I used my Macbook for my blog posts and for filming, my iPhone 11 was used. I learned that each camera shot adds a new aspect to each of the films. Lighting and camera work are very important when it comes to filming. When I was filming for my opening, it took a lot of takes to make it all look good and come together. The lighting of the Kwik stop helped with the process. I didn't really watch any youtube videos but I did see some examples of different film openings in the class. The openings I watched helped and gave me an idea of what to do and how things should be planned out.

Location

Its going to take place at a corner store at first and then we will walk down and reach a park. Each scene is going to be done at night time.

Casting

There are going to be more characters because we realized more people need to be casted. The scene will still start off with the three girls with the add on of a few more. The rest of the people on set will help with camera work and other things to make the movie come together. So far, the people that are participating is Ashley, myself, a relative, and approximately  4 other girls.

Sound and Lighting

Police Sirens will have to be used at the end of the film because the scene ends with the girls calling the police. The lighting is dark so there will be no need for any shine or light. The girls will use the flashlights on their phone. The end of the film will be blurred out when they call the police. Mind you that this film is only 2 minutes so the cramming together scenes, everything need to come out well.

Film Pitch

The production company Ashley and I are pitching our film to is Blumhouse productions. The title of of our film is "I wonder where you are". This film is a horror/mystery where it will first take place outside of a corner store and one of the three girls feel as though that they are being watched. They will continue to walk all the way to the park and the kidnapper will come out and take one of the girls. The scene ends with the girls immediately call the police. This production company is a good fit because it produces good horror/mystery films. This works well with our film because I feel like it will be really good and interesting. Some films that Blumhouse productions have produced that are similar to mine are "Unfriended: Dark Web, Get out, and Ma." The brand of my film actually does align with some of the other films that this company produced. Our separate distribution company will be TERROR FILMS. This offer is a not only attractive one, it's also the smart one. Fresh young minds have a great imagination, we know what viewers want so there will be great profit with this film. Why would you settle for a movie that won't draw viewers attention and come with low money which is not profitable for this company at all . when you can pick this film and end up not disappointed. Thank you!
